I’m keeping this simple. I am not a tech-savvy guy. I don’t usually like learning things that I won’t need to apply to my daily life. However, when my wife and I decided to purchase a big house, there began talks of a home theater system. I was into the idea until I realized that I had to plan this, from the placement to the cost, down to the installation process. Good thing that a buddy of mine told me about Turbosound. I liked how uncomplicated it was and how easy it was to install.
Turbosound Speakers Reviewed
I did a little research on my own and found that Turbosound is a British company founded in 1978. It is a prestigious corporation that has received three Queen’s Awards for its contribution to the British export industry. They are also credited for the Polyhorn and Denditric waveguide concepts. I have no idea what those are, but this company sure is impressive. The item I purchased is Impact TCI53-TR, a relatively small speaker. The specs got to me though, that is why I bought it.
What I like about Turbosound is the choice between a black and a white speaker. Both look professional in their own capacity. However, the room I am working on has a black aesthetic, which led me to buy the black speakers instead. This particular model is bought in pairs.
It is 17.7 inches in height, 6.5 inches wide, and has a depth of 6.2 inches. It’s in the small spectrum of professional speakers, but it has impressive coverage of 100-degree horizontal by 70-degree vertical. It weighs 11 pounds. The maximum SPL is 111 decibels, with 118 decibels at its peak.
Turbosound boasts of its 480 watts peak power, which is considerably low and impressive. The base is 120 watts. Every purchase comes with a wall bracket. It can be mounted through the two M6 rigging points per speaker. It can also be placed on a ⅜-inch mic stand.
It is slightly curved on both ends. However, it is more tapered at the bottom. It is created through a gas-injected, glass-filled enclosure. Its grille is a powder-coated perforated steel with zinc plating. The white finish has a translucent steel grille.
Care and Maintenance
Just because it said weather-resistant in the guide does not mean that it should be exposed to the elements. There should still be a certain amount of care placed into planning where to put these speakers, especially when they are in an outdoor location.
Turbosound talks of its generous three years warranty as they stand by their products in every way. Here is to hoping that I do not have to use it within that time and beyond.
Since it is suspended, we have to get a tall ladder to get it cleaned. The advantage to suspended speakers is that it rarely gets wet unless someone deliberately throws a badly mixed drink at it. The disadvantage is that it is more prone to dust and other small debris.
It is not recommended to remove the grille; however, I do want a clean speaker that doesn’t spew dist at us during scenes with loud background or effects music. Once a month, I brush the grilles lightly, then I plan to remove the entire thing down and clean it with a soft dry cloth every six months to keep it working and sounding nice.
Review
The installation process was easy. The design is immaculate, and it fits right into the room. I now wonder what would have happened if we chose a white speaker. Nonetheless, it is the audio that matters most of all in this review. I am happy to say that the audio is full and loud without any shattering. It is also high enough that when we use microphones, we don’t get much feedback, but not so high that the audience can no longer hear anything.
It delivers just the right amount of bass, which is essential to me. There are so many speakers that do not give attention to their bass, so the audio ends up being too high pitched and all over the place.
Pros and Cons
It is very easy to install. No worries about cords in the way or anything like that. It is also lightweight and made out of durable material. One negative thing about it is that it is prone to dust. There is also no mention of how to clean the speakers properly, so I guess I’d have to rely on the internet for such information.
Conclusion
These twin speakers are useful and ergonomic. They may be compact, but their sound and performance can really pack a punch. It is worth recommending this to anyone who wants to have a pleasurable time watching movies or listening to music in the comfort of your own home.
