JBL SRX828SP REVIEW 2023

Updated: January 23, 2021 By Annette Boyd Leave a Comment

JBL was founded by James Bullough Lansing after a series of unfortunate circumstances before the namesake’s previous companies, namely Harman Corporation and Altec Lansing. They have been manufacturing speakers since the late 1920s. Since then, JBL has been providing people with wonderful acoustics worldwide. It is a quality product that has become a household name.

JBL SRX828SP Reviewed

This powerful speaker includes two 18-inch subwoofers. This emphasizes the bass from any audio that passes through the speaker. It is 26.79 inches in length, 47.42 inches in width, and has a height of 22.57 inches. It weighs 145 pounds.

The speaker is encased in 18 mm plywood with a matte black Obsidian Duraflex finish. Its grille is 14-inch perforated steel. It has a transparent black cloth backing. The grille is powder-coated. The speaker itself has eight handles, four on each side.

The back panel contains an LCD screen for manual control without a wireless connection. The Power light and switch are on the left side of the screen, while the Master Encoder and Back buttons are on the right. The Master Encoder is used to navigate through the LCD screen. There are two channels with a set of In and Out for both. On the lower right corner is a slot for an ethernet connection. Below this are two LED indicator lights for Data and Link.

Care and Maintenance

The manual recommends that the equipment be cleaned using a clean, dry cloth. I like taking up a notch by applying my internet knowledge. I bought a can of pressurized air to blow away dust particles from within the grille. I also dust the grille regularly.

The warranty lasts for five years from the date of purchase. Before needing to go through this tedious process, though, JBL manuals give a troubleshooting guide for usual problems encountered. I think this is a smart move.

One final feature I would like to point out is that the speakers may now be controlled via an app on your phone or other devices. Following where the market is heading, I am happy that I managed to secure this equipment at the turn of an era. Manufacturers have made consumers’ lives easier by making things easier through wireless connections and apps that constantly update. There is no harm in using manual speakers, of course, but this new innovation just makes things a little bit easier.

Review

Right off the bat, the speakers work perfectly with the acoustics and aesthetic of my would-be studio. It fills the room with rich bass sounds. Feedback is easily manageable and now rarely happens after a little configuration on the speaker.

It blends nicely with the white soundproof panels of the room. JBL always has a professional look to it, no matter what the purchase. Even if it is on the ground, the sounds are full and loud without shattering. I can say that it is very pleasant to the ears and the way I know it was back in the day. That speaks a lot about the continuously improving quality of JBL speakers throughout the years.

Pros and Cons

The pros of the JBL SRX828SP speakers is that they can be placed literally anywhere and still sound good. I plan on suspending my unit in the near future. Not only that, but it also sounds good no matter its place. It truly is the best out there in the market. I also like how it can be controlled via an app. It removes so much of the hassle other manual speakers give.

This app can cause its downfall, though. I still have to train myself to study the back panel whenever I can. There are times when my phone fails to function properly. I don’t want to be in a situation where I won’t know what to do simply because of a phone issue.

Conclusion

Having withstood the test of time, JBL products are almost always guaranteed to perform to the standard people have known and trusted. I have, and it did not disappoint. I definitely recommend this product to anyone chasing a dream that starts and ends with acoustics. I’m sure I will not be disappointed as well.

About Annette Boyd

I first started playing music when my father bought me a half-size guitar at age 6 and showed me a few simple folk songs. Since then, I've taken up the piano and the drums, and have played with a wide variety of bands nationwide. While my favorite music styles are jazz and punk, I'm happy to play anything with anyone—and I've learned a lot along the way. I want to share that knowledge with my readers now!
