HOW TO CONNECT BLUETOOTH HEADPHONES TO XBOX ONE CONTROLLER?

Bluetooth headphones are one of the best things to use as they don’t limit your movement when playing on a console and are easy to manage. The Xbox One is the most successful console for many gamers since its launch year. Even with all the success that this console has, people have a problem with it. That is, Xbox One controllers not having Bluetooth functionality, which is a big problem. But of course, we have a couple of ways which will fix this issue, and you will be able to connect your Bluetooth headphones to your Xbox One controllers.

So let’s get right down to it. There are currently four different ways you can use to connect your Bluetooth headsets to an Xbox One controller.

How To Connect Bluetooth Headphones to Xbox One Controller?

Xbox Wireless

If you think that Xbox was not capable of creating a wireless connection between your headset and the controller, you are wrong. They can, but they decided to keep it only for Xbox. Xbox Wireless is the technology used for connecting Xbox one consoles to other devices. The Xbox Wireless technology is the same one used to connect the Xbox One controllers to the console. It can be used for headphones with the same connection. That means the headsets having Xbox Wireless support can connect to the controllers.

There are only a handful of Xbox Wireless headphones, though most wireless headphones use Bluetooth. The Xbox Wireless headsets offer an extensive range of sound options and have much less latency as compared to simple headsets having Bluetooth. Hence it is best to have Xbox Wireless supported headphones when gaming on an Xbox One console. Here are several wireless headphones with which Xbox One can work directly:

  • LucidSound LS35X
  • LucidSound LS15X
  • Razer Thresher
  • Turtle Beach Stealth 700
  • Turtle Beach Stealth 600

Connect using Bluetooth Transmitter

There are no ports on the console itself; hence you will have to do that via the controller to establish any connection between your Xbox One and your Bluetooth headphones. An Xbox One controller is equipped with a proprietary port with a 3.5 mm audio port. For the controllers with the audio port, an adapter is needed to connect with the controller using its 3.5 mm port and acting as a Bluetooth transmitter. Most of these adapters are third-party devices; thus, they are not made for the Xbox One in particular.

Although, you can typically add Bluetooth capabilities to all audio equipment with these adapters. These transmitters will then allow you to connect your Xbox One controller with your headphones. But the transmitter can only help you hear, and you will not be able to speak using your mic, even if you have headphones with built-in mics. You can also use devices that are transmitters and receivers as well. They will cost an extra couple of bucks, but you will be able to use your mic and speak to teammates as well.

  • Attach the Bluetooth Transmitter via the 3.5mm Aux port on the Xbox One controller.
  • Turn on the transmitter.
  • Turn your headphones on.
  • Pair your transmitter with your headphones using the transmitter’s particular instructions because different transmitters work in different ways.
  • Your Bluetooth headphones should now be connected to the Xbox One controller allowing you to listen while using your Xbox One.

Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter

Surprisingly enough, some Xbox One controllers do not have any audio jack like the 3.5 mm standard audio jacks on Xbox One’s other controllers. It adds complications to our previous solution of connecting a Bluetooth transmitter, making the hearing via Bluetooth headphones possible. However, the good news is that all of the controllers have a proprietary port, which we can use to create an audio jack.

How do we add an audio jack? Well, we use an adapter that has an audio jack, and it can also connect to the controller using its proprietary port, making your life easier. Although this might seem like the last choice, but it’s not; it will give you a variety of new buttons. These buttons are not just there for nothing; they provide a couple of handy features you can use. The current adapter is Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter and is not mixed with the Xbox Wireless adapter as they are both for different purposes.

Streaming/Sharing screen

If you cannot opt for any of the solutions stated before, then the last option would help. It is a clever workaround that makes it possible to see and hear yourself. Xbox gives you an option to stream what you are playing. You can use this to stream to another device that can connect to your Bluetooth headphones. If you can’t stream, you can also share your screen using a device running Windows. Windows and Xbox are both of Microsoft; hence they let you stream or screen share easily. You can choose either of the options that suit you. Follow these steps to stream you Windows and to connect your Bluetooth headphones with it as well:

Download the Xbox app from the store. (If not pre-installed)

  • Connect using your Xbox account. The same account logged in your Xbox.
  • Choose the connect option from the app.
  • Connect to your Xbox.
  • Select the stream option at the top after connecting.
  • When successfully connected, you should see your Xbox screen when minimizing the Xbox app.
  • Connect your Bluetooth headphones to the Windows.

It will help you hear and play, but you are streaming that creates latency issues. If you want a better experience, you can skip the 7th step and continue these steps:

  • Open the Xbox app.
  • Select “Partys” and then create a party
  • Connect your headphones.
  • Go to the “Party settings” option in the Xbox app.
  • Then click on “change audio devices.”
  • Select your headphones.

That’s it; now your latency issues will be no more as you are connected directly with the Xbox by creating a party. Hopefully, one of these ways will have successfully solved your problems. Have a great time enjoying your game now!
